German-born Ruth Welcome focused on the zither made popular at the time by The Third Man starring Orson Welles, her album ‘Zither Magic’ from 1959 introduced her to a global audience and was followed by a string of zitheratti including ‘Welocme To Zitherland’, ‘The Buffalo Zither Club’ and ‘Romantic Zither’ among many others. Witches hats, gliding strings and full-scale ambience were her exotica… and why not use them?
