Jimmy Reed plays a slow boogie; more electric than Hooker, more folky than the Heat, with a voice to slowly luxuriate in. Bobby Gillespie of Primal Scream included the track ‘Baby What You Do To Me’ on a cassette he made for Select magazine maybe 30 years ago wedged between Scott Walker, Dion at his most Spector-esque, James Carr, Crazy Horse’s ‘I Don’t Want To Talk About It’ and ‘Pirate Love’ by Johnny Thunders. The tape was called ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll Music’ and Jimmy Reed rolled with the best of them.

Enjoyable loosely themed compilition. The sparse and completely inadequate notes claim that, "all songs are the theme of death, travel and transendence." How in the world this claim is true of the Memphis Jug Band song, I have no clue. Better if they had just given the release dates and left it at that. Decent compilation, just very sloppily presented. vertuila
